Memory Competition Questions #1: Why Should I Compete In Memory Competitions?
A lot of people who want to get into memory competitions have a lot of questions. I want to help people out so I am going to answer the questions to help people get a better idea about memory competitions. Also, I hope people join in on memory competitions because they are awesome! The first question people ask is: Why Should I Compete In Memory Competitions?
First of all, most people don't even know that memory competitions exist! When you tell people, they think it's amazing but don't know what anyone would want to do it. Some people take an interest in memory competitions and want to know more, bur are not sure if they want to compete or not. What are the reasons?
1. Learn Memory Techniques
One of the biggest reasons why anyone should compete is that they get to learn memory techniques. Memory competitions were the starting point for me getting interested in memory techniques. I used these techniques to remember cards, numbers, words, and so on, but I made the transition to using these memory techniques to remember useful information!
You will get to learn the best way to remember information that has been lost throughout time. You also get to work out the kinks and figure out how to memorize a lost faster from memory competitions. This makes it so much easier to apply memory techniques to books, math, languages, and much more!
2. Realize Your Memory Is Powerful
The best part about competing in memory competitions is that you get to see how good your memory actually is! If you were to ask someone right now if they could memorize a deck of cards in 5 minutes, what do you think they would say? He/she would probably say, "There is no way I could do it!"
Maybe you even thought this the first time heard someone memorizing a deck of cards. But when you compete in memory competitions, you are blown away by how much you can actually memorize! It is the coolest feeling knowing you can memorize a deck of cards in 5 minutes, 100 digits in 5 minutes, or remember 60 names in 15 minutes.
A memory competition puts more pressure and stress on you so when you can memorize under these conditions, you feel like you are on top of the world! Seeing how far you push your memory is something I also look forward to when I compete in memory competitions. I always want to see what my memory is capable of!
3. Amazing People
The last reason you should compete in memory competitions is you get some of the funniest, coolest, and nicest people ever! I keep in contact with the people I have met at my various memory competitions. Some of these people are across the world from me like in Germany, India, England, and much more!
This is a very tight community of people so everyone is really friendly with each other. A really fun part is one you go out to dinner after a competition. This is really when you get to know each other and just have a good time!
These are the main reasons why you should compete in a memory competition. I believe everyone should compete in at least one memory competition to experience it. I know a memory competition might not be close to you so you might have to travel to go to one but trust me, it is worth it!
If you have other questions about memory competitions, leave them to me in the comments, and I will do my best to answer them!
